HIPAA Privacy and Security
At Niha Communications we understand the need for confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information such as medical records. As an international provider of healthcare revenue cycle related solutions and services, Niha ensures absolute compliance with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) as well as The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).
Niha takes various measures to ensure its compliance with these acts. All of our employees attend bi-annual training sessions in which our privacy and security standards are clearly outlined. Additionally, our employees perform their job functions from Niha’s centrally located offices, therefore no patient information is allowed to leave our offices.
At Niha we have created a multi-tier security system for the safety and protection of our intellectual property and confidential information. On a physical level we have 24/7 security personnel guarding our coding facilities as well as electronic access restrictions to our work areas and network. Our network is further strengthened from intrusion by a firewall and all workstations have restricted Internet access. Our servers are protected in a center with a high level of security, only allowing for access to approved IT staff.
In addition to this, access to these servers is monitored by ID swipes so that this activity can be logged and reviewed on a daily basis. Each workstation at Niha is highly secure as all external drives such as the CD drives and USB drive ports have been disabled. There are no printers connected to any of the workstations to ensure that no patient information is printed and taken outside the facility.
